Safeties - The Redskins safeties at the moment are not among the best. They drafted a few this past draft but Phillip Thomas is out for the season and Rambo still needs to prove himself. I wouldn't bet on the Redskins using an early round draft pick on a safety unless something changes.
Ha Ha Clinton Dix (6) and Rober Lester (37) |
- Craig Loston (SS, LSU) - He still has a lot to prove this season but he is a very athletic strong safety. He has shown flashes of greatness but is probably a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick until he can improve on his consistency.
Wide Receivers - Unless Hankerson, Robinson, or Morgan take a big step forward this year the Redskins will need to get a receiver during the offseason. Outside of Garçon there is not real threat on the roster and that needs to be fixed.
- Brandon Coleman (Rutgers) - Coleman is a huge receiver at 6'5" and 220 lbs. He can physically outmatch cornerbacks in press coverage. He does have some concentration issues and can drop balls, so maybe the Redskins are tired of that problem. However, he is a great red-zone threat and is someone to watch.
- Jordan Matthews (Vanderbilt) - Matthews has been extremely productive in college and is a cousin to Jerry Rice. He isn't overly athletic but he has great hands and has good size standing at 6'3". He is probably my favorite receiver prospect for next years draft outside of the top 2 in Sammy Watkins and Marqise Lee.
Shayne Skov |
Shayne Skov (Stanford) - Skov was a standout his freshman year but then tore his ACL in 2011. He returned last season and was productive but really failed to play at the same level. If Skov can come back this year and really produce he could be a great fit for the Redskins. He is a big guy at 6'3" and weighing 251 lbs which is similar size to Brain Cushing of the Texans. I really like Skov and even if he doesn't shoot up draft boards he could be worth a look as a 4th round pick.
