Key Players Who Need To Step Up Against Green Bay

Trent Williams
The problem with the Redskins during their loss against the Eagles wasn't a lack of talent but instead a failure by some of the Redskins' best players to produce.  So, in the coming game against Aaron Rodger and the Packers those key players need to play on the level they have in the past.

1. Robert Griffin III - RGIII looked more like Blain Gabbert than himself during the first half of the Monday Night game. He threw an ugly interception, failed to drive the ball down field, and had extremely poor timing with his receivers. Even his completions were often inaccurate. However, in the second half and the 4th quarter he began to get in a rhythm. Two plays before his touchdown throw Griffin made a fantastic past to Hankerson down the middle of the field hitting Hankerson in the hands and in stride. That is the RGIII that needs to come and play against the Packers.

2. Alfred Morris - #46 doesn't fumble the ball and he doesn't make silly mistakes. Yet his first carry of the game he fumbled and later failed to catch a pitch from RGIII in the end zone. The bright side is that Morris only fumbled the ball 4 times last year so this should mean it won't happen again for a while. However, if RGIII is going to return to being the dynamic QB we all know him to be then Morris HAS to perform. Being a quarterback who is coming off a knee injury and who didn't play a snap in the preseason Griffin needs a running game. Not only does Griffin need it but the defense can't be happy when forced to play for over 20 mins in the first half. This week the Redskins are facing the Packers who have a great QB in Aaron Rodgers. The best way to defend against a passing attack like theirs? Keep it off the field. The only way to do that is to sustain long drives and run the ball often and successfully. Morris needs to improve on his 3.8 yards per carry or it will be another long day for Skins fans.

3. Trent Williams - Last year Williams looked like one of the dominant tackles in the game. Monday Night he looked like the 2011 version of himself. He missed blocks and really failed to help out Morris in the running game by pushing defenders down field. Morris struggled in part because of the play of the entire offensive line. Will Montgomery also belongs here with his lackluster play.

4. Brian Orakpo - Orakpo came out this offseason saying he wants to win comeback player of the year and DPOY. But with the way he played the other night he would be lucky to be named the 4th best defensive player on the Redskins. Kerrigan and Riley looked great and rookie David Amerson was impressive but Orakpo missed tackles and failed to keep contain multiple times. The Redskins need to put some pressure on Aaron Rodger and tackle a big running back in Eddie Lacy. If Orakpo wants to even contend for Defensive MVP for the Redskins he must play better than that.
