Devery Henderson and Donte' Stallworth sign with the Redskins

Donte' Stallworth
It appears Shanahan decided the Redskins needed a couple more receivers to add to the competition during training camp. The Redskins signed Donte' Stallworth and Devery Henderson today. I doubt either of these two will see the field much if at all this year. Both are above the age of 30 and both have not had productive seasons in recent years.

Devery Henderson
Stallworth returns to the Redskins after a year with the patriots where he played in a total of one game catching one pass for 63 yards and a touchdown. When he was with the Redskins during 2011 season he ended the year playing in 11 games catching 22 of his 37 targets for 309 yards and 2 touchdowns. In reality his best years are behind him and even they were never that great. He hasn't caught more than 500 yards since 2007 and hasn't caught 5 touchdowns since 2006. He had a few good seasons early in his career but that kind of production is unlikely.

Henderson has played for the New Orleans Saints for the entirety of his career and it is even less impressive than Stallworth's. He never caught more than 5 touchdowns in a season and only reached that number once. Last year he played 15 games for the Saints recording 22 receptions for 316 yards and 1 touchdown. Once again a receiver past his prime and will probably not make a major contribution.

Shanahan has often brought in players for the purpose of creating competition. He holds the belief that more competition is healthy and helps to build the best team. I agree with that idea and believe that Stallworth and Henderson will serve this purpose. I am not convinced both or either will make the roster but they do have a chance. Neither are any better than Moss, Garçon  Hankerson, or Morgan so their best bet to is beat out Aldrick Robinson. The problem with this is Robinson is much younger and faster than Henderson and Stallworth. I would honestly be surprised to see either make the team or any impact.

  1. I agree totally. Route runners to show Hankerson and Robinson how to run precise routes. And out they go.

    1. Exactly, It's possible one of them will make the roster but even then they will most likely get very little playing time if any. Could just be inactive and be insurance in case of injury.

      Thanks for reading
