Redskins vs Steelers: What to Watch

It's the Redskins second preseason game and there are still some question marks. Here is what you should be watching..

1. Kirk Cousins - He will be playing the entire first half of this game and it will be good to see how he has progressed. Last week he looked great but that was only in limited play so what he does tonight is more important. It is still only a preseason game and the 3rd preseason game is the one that teams plan for but it will be good to see him out on the field and hopefully impress. He will be a starting quarterback in this league one day the question is when?

2. The Backup Running Backs - Helu impressed last week as did Royster but this will be Chris Thompson's first chance to show what he's got. Thompson has no chance of beating out Helu for the #2 spot but he has the speed and explosiveness to compete with Royster. Oh and honestly, the best thing Helu can do in this game is stay healthy.

3. The Tight Ends - Lets ignore Fred Davis for now because I will return to him later. Jordan Reed has made a lot of noise so far with his athleticism and ability to make some tough catches. It will be nice to see him in a game and if he can continue his growth especially as a blocker. Niles Paul should be interesting to watch as well. This group of tight ends is very interesting and appears to have a lot of depth to it.

4. Who is after Garçon? - Garçon is the clear cut #1 receiver and last year there wasn't anyone who really stood out has a threat besides him. That needs to change this year. Morgan, Hankerson, Robinson, and Davis all have a chance to be that guy. Morgan and Davis are probably the most likely to step up with both being healthy this year. Hankerson and Robinson both have aspects that make them exciting but have been to inconsistent at this point to inspire a lot of hope. Someone really needs to step up if this offense wants to continue its growth this year.

5. Tom Compton - The backups along the offensive line will be fun to watch in general but Compton interests me the most. He has shown some significant improvement so far this year but it hasn't been enough to make me feel comfortable with the possibility of Trent Williams going down. Among the other backups Josh LeRibeus has been underwhelming at best and it appears he showed up at camp out of shape. Adam Gettis is someone to watch closely tonight as well.

6. Amerson/Rambo - Rambo is the one starting but Amerson has impressed me more so far. There is very little competition for free safety so Rambo really needs to continue to grow if the secondary isn't going to be in complete shambles. Amerson has looked really good so far and has shown he can be a very physical receiver. Lets see if both of these guys can show up tonight and make the kind of impression the Redskins need them to make.
