Redskins Practice Report: Friday

Today was the last day of training camp for the Redskins and I was fortunate to be there. Here are my thoughts and notes.

1. Orakpo wasn't practicing for the second day in a row though he was on the field for walkthroughs. Meriweather on the other hand was practicing (if only with the scout team) but will not play during the Redskins preseason game on Monday. Donte Stallworth will not play either.

2. RGIII (the main attraction) received cheers all day including a chuckle when he ran the ball beat two defenders and then very dramatically fell to the ground. He had a strong day completing 6 of 8 passes during 11 on 11's. He also ran the two-minute drill though it was pretty relaxed and was no where near full speed. He looked good all day and had some good passes where he really drove the ball.

3. While Rex Grossman didn't have a great day throwing two interception including one caught by Rambo Pat White had a worse one. White threw three interceptions including one horrible throw where he was trying to go deep but was no where near any receiver and I'm not entirely sure who it was meant for. In his defense one of the interceptions was caused by the receiver (I believe it was Dawson) falling down.

4. All that said the atmosphere was a pretty good one. There were tons of fans many of which stayed long after as Alfred Morris went around signing autographs for over an hour. Really have to love a guy like him.

5. The second preseason game is only a few days away and it seems Cousins will play the entire first half with White and Grossman splitting time in the second. Chris Thompson should also be getting his first chance to show what he can do and possibly beat out Royster for a roster spot.

6. The key deadlines to remember are August 27th and August 31st. On the 27th the team must cut down its roster to 75 before cutting it down to the final 53 man roster on the 31st.

7. The start of the season is now only 20 days away and I can't wait. This team has a lot to prove, especially on the defensive side of the ball, but it has a lot of potential and has the chance to repeat as NFC East chance for the first time in a long while. Hail!
