Robert Griffin III is Back!

This is my first post in a while but lets skip the pleasantries and get right down to business.

RGIII
Let the excitement start RGIII the savior of a franchise that has struggled for two decades is back and practicing with the Redskins. No, he has not been given the full work load and no, he will probably not appear in any preseason games according to ESPN's Adam Schefter, but despite all of this he is back. Kirk Cousins has shown some promise but the reality is without RGIII at the helms the Redskins are not the same team that won the NFC East a year ago. I am as excited of anyone to see RGIII back on the field, however, there are a few things that must be addressed now that he has returned.

1. How will he progress?
- Griffin had an unbelievable rookie season and showed off the skills that led him to win the Heisman and earn the 2nd selection in the 2012 draft. All of this said he is not a finished product at this point and their are areas where he can improve specifically within the pocket. It will be interesting to see if he can take some steps forward to improve his game even though he has missed some time and is still limited in practice.

2. How to keep him safe?
- I am not one of those people who believe that Griffin needs to become a pocket quarterback completely. That is not the kind of player he is and taking away runs like the one to the right. He does need to be kept safe though because more injuries like last year will only hinder his ability to have a long career and the teams success. The question becomes will the Redskins simply run him less or tell him to run less or will he learn/be taught to slide or get out of bounds instead of diving for that extra yard.

3. Who will be his go to receiver outside of Garçon. Garçon is clearly a talented player when on the field and made a huge difference with the Skins going 9-1 (9-2 including the playoff game) when he was on the field. The question is who will be the other threats after Garçon. Will Josh Morgan come back this year healthier and with another year in the offense providing a viable #2 target. Will Leonard Hankerson's potential finally allow him to take that next step. Can Fred Davis finally have a season worth remembering for something other than disappointment. Or will it end up being Aldrick Robinson the 2011 6th round pick who will prove that he is more than just a deep threat as it appears he has started to already this preseason according to Rich Tandler of CSNWasington.com. There are plenty of options from which at least one reliable number #2 target needs to emerge if the Redskins offense and RGIII are going to take another step in the passing game.
