Predicting Redskins Team Awards

MVP: RGIII
This is pretty simple. If Griffin can stay healthy and play at the level we all know he is capable of then he will be the MVP. This team can go only as far as Griffin takes them. Cousins is good and could become a great QB in this league but for now Griffin is the difference maker and without him on the field the Redskins won't be able to get as far.

Offensive Player of the Year: Fred Davis
Because I chose RGIII for MVP I decided to take a different player for OPOY. There are a few who will be in contention like Morris and Garçon but Garçon has only played a full 16 game season once in his career. Morris is probably a good bet but Helu will take some carries away from him and I have a feeling that he won't be able to have quite the same season as last year. Davis may seem like a bad pick but again my gut tells me he is going to be a star this year. He has the ability to be a top 5 TE in this league.

Defensive Player of the Year: Barry Cofield
The Redskins staff has said for a long time they believe Cofield can be one of the best in this league and this seems to be the year he'll prove it. He completely manhandled Pro Bowl center Maurkice Pouncey in the preseason game against the Steelers and while it was only preseason it's still impressive. Orakpo and Kerrigan will bring the pressure but the pass rush will rely on Cofield's ability to take on blockers. The run defense will also heavily rely on Cofield causing disruption up the middle.

Most Improved: Leonard Hankerson/Aldrick Robinson
I really believe one of these two is going to make a huge impact in the passing game. Honestly, I'm leaning toward Robinson. Part of what you need to add to a great running game like the Redskins have is a deep threat to stretch the field on play action. Garçon has speed and his a deep threat himself but Robinson is ridiculously fast. Robinson has been more consistent with his hands which is a good sign. Hankerson has a chance to win this award by simply being on the field more. It's possible that Hankerson becomes the #2 receiver by the end of the season which would allow him to have an increase in production.

Rookie of the Year: David Amerson
A popular pick here would be Rambo but because he has been forced into a starting role he will have a lot of growing pains early on. Amerson will have the ability to get a lot of snaps but won't be relied upon as a starter at first. This should allow him to grow and make plays like he did in college while not going up against receivers like Calvin Johnson. By the end of the season I fully expect Amerson to be the best rookie on the team and to have earned the starting job.

Biggest Disappointment: Pierre Garçon
A lot is being made of Garçon
this year so if he doesn't produce as a #1 receiver then it will be seen as a disappointment. As I said before he has only played one full season in his career and while I don't expect him to have a bad year I also don't expect him to have as good of a year as people expect. Garçon has the potential to really produce this year but expectations just seem too high for him at this point.
